Increase in Fighting Spirit
Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, America wanted to stay out of the war and not cause a fight. This all changed on December 7, 1941. The day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, President Roosevelt went to congress to ask for war against Japan. His opening words were, “December 7, 1941… a date which will live in infamy.” (Callender et al.) (“British Pathé''). These six words rallied the Americans and increased their fighting spirit. The attack on Pearl Harbor also increased their fighting spirit because it shifted the opinions of many Americans and grew feelings of fear, anger, and patriotism (“14 Interesting Pearl Harbor Facts | Oahu Attack & USS Arizona Facts''). In conclusion, the attack on Pearl Harbor increased the fighting spirit for many people around the country.
